Pro Mujer in Nicaragua
ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: Following the success of Pro Mujer in Bolivia, Pro Mujer in Nicaragua started operations in 1996 as an international nonprofit organization based in the city of Leon located in western Nicaragua. It works through community associations, a type of village bank comprising 20 to 30 women, to provide credit, training and health services for women living in poverty. The organization is part of the Pro Mujer network, with headquarters in New York.
Pro Mujer in Nicaragua was founded with a strong social purpose, which is reflected in the mission of the organization: to support poor women with small businesses by offering credit paired with health training and education to promote their empowerment, economic growth and improved quality of life.
In addition to investing in Pro Mujer in Nicaragua, GP has launched a strategic partnership with Pro Mujer, as well as PATH, a global health nonprofit, to create a model for offering health programming to poor families in Latin America through the microfinance platform.
