Pro Mujer in Bolivia
ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: Pro Mujer in Bolivia supports women who are socially and economically excluded by offering them financial and personal development services under an integrated and participatory approach, so they can realize their potential and improve the lives of their families. Founded in the city of La Paz in 1990, this nonprofit organization provides credit, training and health services for women living in poverty.
The success of Pro Mujer in Bolivia led to the creation of four new Pro Mujer programs in Peru, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Argentina all of them following the same operating principles and offering an integrated set of services to women in poverty. The five programs are now part of an international network based in New York City.
Pro Mujer in Bolivia serves almost the entire country. Pro Mujer in Bolivia’s social purpose is reflected in all aspects of the operation. Unlike some organizations, this is not a credit program with some social programs on the side. This is an organization that delivers both credit and other programs in an effective and professional way.
In 2009, GP launched a strategic partnership with Pro Mujer in Nicaragua and PATH, a global health nonprofit, to create a model for offering health programming to poor families in Latin America through the microfinance platform.
