ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: FUNDAHMICRO is a nonprofit organization founded in Honduras in 2000, which began with operations in the city of Choluteca in the southern region and expanded rapidly to geographic areas having low levels of microfinance penetration in both urban and rural environments. The organization offers both individual and group loans, including microenterprise, home improvement and consumer credit. It also provides loans to community enterprise units, a relatively unusual form of credit, where units operate as private companies in which all members are owners. Approximately 60% of the loan portfolio is allocated in rural areas.
FUNDAHMICRO's operations began in the south, and its operations are still concentrated there. However, branches in the central and northwestern areas have grown rapidly.
