ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: FODEMI was founded by World Vision in 1995 as a credit program with the goal of improving the socioeconomic conditions and productivity of the most needy population groups among World Vision's Area Development Projects (ADPs). FODEMI offers microcredit with a small education program, which includes topics on self-esteem, accounting, emotional intelligence, business administration and leadership.
FODEMI has grown to operate in four branches across the north-central area of Ecuador and continues to focus on underserved populations. While the majority of microfinance institutions in Ecuador serve more financially capable individuals, the majority of FODEMI borrowers are rural women who are living in poverty.
