ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: CRECER was founded in 1985 by Freedom from Hunger, a California-based nonprofit organization, as a project of their Credit with Education Program. The program’s goal was to help women break the cycle of poverty through economic and social empowerment. In 1999 CRECER became an independent Bolivian nonprofit organization. It works mainly through communal banks of 12 to 20 women and combines this with education in health, civil rights, empowerment and business development.

CRECER serves eight of Bolivia’s nine departments, with a presence of 12 offices. The regions are further served by a more extensive network of branches.
