ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: Crear Tacna is a private microfinance institution that started in 1992 as a program of a local nonprofit organization, Habitat Tacna Siglo XXI. It became a regulated independent microfinance provider in 1998. Crear Tacna’s main product is individual loans to microentrepreneurs, including those in commerce and export-oriented agriculture. The organization’s mission is to support the development of micro and small enterprises in Peru by providing financial services adapted to the needs of its clients, having qualified, motivated and engaged personnel and maintaining profitability and sustainability.
Crear Tacna is an important provider of microfinance services in its local geographic market, which comprises the departments of Tacna and Moquegua. This area is located in the extreme south of the country on the border with Chile and has a dynamic economy with a large amount of international trade. The incidence of extreme poverty is less than in other parts of the country, and it is a fast-growing region where commercial opportunities are rapidly emerging. Crear Tacna recently expanded operations to Lima.
