ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: Cooperativa 20 de Abril is a nonprofit institution founded in Nicaragua in 1994. Its main services are individual loans for commerce and agriculture, voluntary savings accounts and remittances. Besides microfinance services, Cooperativa 20 de Abril also markets coffee produced by its members and wholesales agricultural inputs and groceries in the community of Quilalí, where its main office is located. Approximately 60% of the loan portfolio is in rural communities and 27% of the customers are women. 

Cooperativa 20 de Abril operates in the northern region of the country, where it has a strong local presence. Its operations are concentrated outside the main urban centers and mainly serve the departments of Nueva Segovia, Jinotega and Madriz—remote areas where access to credit is scarce.
