Success Story:
Elda Nube Ramos

La Libertad, El Salvador

Elda Nube Ramos used to work in a clothing factory, a “maquila,” but it was too difficult to continue working there and also care for her five children. So four years ago, Elda got her first loan with Enlace, a Global Partnerships partner organization in El Salvador, and she used that loan to open a small store in her home where she sells food, drinks, household items, and clothing. While her overall income with the store is not as great as her salary from the clothing factory, the quality of her and her family’s life has improved as she can now be home with her young children. As her store has grown, she has continued receiving loans, with the most recent being for $500. With this new loan, her husband will add to the family business by constructing wooden pallets to sell to local companies for cargo use. Thanks to the loans and their hard work, Elda and her husband have been able to build their own home with its own well for water. They have bought furniture and some appliances, and all five of her children attend school. She is very proud that her children will have a better education than she did.
