Aligning Assets with Mission

More and more foundations are leveraging their assets to achieve both financial and social returns through mission investing. Mission investing refers to the practice of using financial investments as tools to advance a foundation’s mission. Through program-related in vestments (PRIs) and mission-related investments (MRIs), foundations are increasingly deploying additional resources to complement their traditional grantmaking for greater programmatic impact.

Microfinance Fund 2009

Global Partnerships recently launched Microfinance Fund 2009 (MFF 2009), its fourth fund aimed at increasing access to microcredit for people living in poverty, with an emphasis on women and the rural poor. MFF 2009 offers investors a competitive fixed income return
with well managed risk and high social impact. Some highlights:

  • Term: Six years
  • Interest: Paid quarterly (see below for capital structure)
  • Principal: Single payment at fund’s maturity
  • Minimum investment: $100,000, over two capital calls
