Director of Accounting (Controller)

Position Title:          Controller (Director of Accounting and Benefits Administration)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

 

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Responsible for maintaining accounting controls and procedures, including proper audit documentation.

  • Oversees routine and non-routine journal entries and control of general ledger.

  • Directly responsible for payroll, both in the US and in foreign offices.

  • Directly responsible for tax compliance, both in the US and in all foreign offices.

  • Completes all government reporting, such as IRS form 990, forms 1099, foreign office reporting.

  • Administers employee benefit programs, including healthcare benefits and retirement plans.

  • Assists COO with cash management administration.

  • Oversees all credit card and expense administration and controls.

  • Plays the lead role in coordinating with external auditors and ensuring a clean external audit of financial statements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.  Prefer CPA with some audit experience.

  • 5-7 years full-time work experience in a mid-level accounting or controller/assistant controller role

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with non-profit accounting, fund accounting, and hedge accounting.

  • Payroll processing and administration experience, and experience handling highly confidential information.

  • Benefits Administration experience, including analysis and administration of employee healthcare plans, 401k plans, insurance plans, etc.

  • Experience with routine and non-routine journal entries; prefer past experience in Quickbooks.

  • Experience working with external auditors; the ideal candidate will have an audit background with a CPA firm.

  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interface effectively with a variety of teams and personalities.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Some supervisory experience and ability to collaborate with or manage a small group of team members.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products.

  • Passion for GP's mission and working style that embraces innovation and learning.

  • Bi-lingual working proficiency (English and Spanish), work or life experience in developing countries, and market knowledge or experience in Global Partnerships’ areas of interest all are desirable but not required.
