  6. How has Global Partnerships' strategy evolved in recent years?
Though our mission has remained the same, our approach has evolved significantly since 1994 when we used grant capital to pioneer microfinance work in Central America. As we grew and learned more about how socially-motivated lending can better sustain and grow solutions to poverty, we launched our first impact investment loan portfolio in 2005. Today, we use philanthropic capital to research, explore and identify promising approaches to delivering high-impact products and services families living in poverty. Once solutions are proven sustainable, we deploy social investment capital to scale delivery of those products and services to millions of people living in poverty. Return to top>
  7. Will Global Partnerships expand into other countries outside of Latin America and Caribbean?
Yes. In 2015 we opened a new office in Nairobi, Kenya and established a local team. We made our first investment in social enterprises in Kenya in 2016 and will continue to expand throughout East Africa. Africa is the continent with the most prevalent and persistent poverty in the world, and we believe that we can leverage the power of markets to deliver opportunity to millions of people there, as we have in Latin America and the Caribbean. Return to top >
  8. Why should I make a contribution when you have investment funds?
GP uses philanthropy to identify what’s working around the world, pioneer new solutions, and prove market-sustained solutions. These early-stage investments in innovative partners are the key to building long-term, sustainable solutions to improve lives. For example, without philanthropic support, we would not have been able to support new, innovative programs such as the one we launched with our partner Pro Mujer in Nicaragua -- a program that is now helping thousands of poor women in Nicaragua access affordable health services. We are also using philanthropic capital to seek out affordable and appropriate green technologies and research sustainable business models that will have a lasting impact. Return to top >
  9. What are Global Partnerships’ Social Investment Funds (SIFs) and how do they work?
Global Partnerships’ Social Investment Funds were started as a strategy to raise capital above and beyond philanthropy to invest in solutions that have demonstrative, market-sustained impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. This strategy frees our philanthropic capital to invest in next-generation solutions. Our funds offer investors modest financial returns with significant social impact, meaning a positive difference in the lives of the people we serve. To date, we have repaid our fund investors 100 percent with target return. Return to top >
